چکیده

Squamous-cell carcinomas, hemangiomas, fibro mas, and papillomas have occurred in the skin of ducks following the local application of a 0.25 per cent acetone solution of methylcholanthrene daily for a period of 1 month (5, 6). The spontaneous disappearance of a high per cent of these neo plasms in the duck has proved to be a feature of considerable interest (7). Attempts have been made infrequently to produce neoplasms in fowls by the local application of carcinogens to the skin. Hartwell (2), in 1951, cited four experiments in which the skin of fowls was treated with 3,4-benzpyrene. In one the skin of pigeons was used, and one spinocellular epithelial neoplasm developed. In three experiments the skin of fifteen chickens was treated, and one bird developed an epithelioma. The spontaneous occurrence of carcinomas in the skin of fowls is apparently infrequent. Olson and Bullis (4) reported one case of a squamouscell carcinoma in the skin of a chicken. Feldman and Olson (1), in 1944, cited only a few previously reported cases in their study of neoplastic diseases in chickens. These authors stated "In the cases

Mutations of p53 Gene in Skin Cancers: a Case Control Study

Background: The most frequently mutated tumor suppressor gene found in human cancer is p53. In a normal situation, p53 is activated upon the induction of DNA damage to either arrest the cell cycle or to induce apoptosis. However, when mutated, p53 is no longer able to properly accomplish these functions. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of p53 gene in cases of skin cancer...

Value of CD10 Expression in Differentiating Cutaneous Basal from Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Basal Cell Carcinoma from Trichoepithelioma

Background: In addition to the well-defined histological criteria for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), immunohistochemical techniques can be used in difficult cases for their differentiation. As differential diagnosis between trichoepithelioma (TE) and BCC is sometimes difficult for the clinician and the pathologist, CD10 may be a useful marker for definite diagnosi...

Immunohistochemical expression of CD10 in cutaneous basal and squamous cell carcinomas

Background: Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common malignant tumor in humans. The role of ultraviolet radiation is well-known in the pathogenesis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). CD10 is a zinc-dependent metallopeptidase known as common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA). Although CD10 expression has been investigated in some cutaneous tu...

Comparative evaluation of the frequency of myofibroblasts between oral and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas

Introduction: Differentiation of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts is an initial and very important event in tumor genesis. Myofibroblasts produce proteinases that stimulate invasion in cancers. Due to the more malignant potential of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) compared to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) , the aim of the present study was to compare myofibroblasts between OSCC and ...

P53 and Ki67 protein expression in ocular squamous cell carcinomas of dairy cattle

Role of the protein overexpression is very important in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and prognosis of neoplasia. Cases of overexpression of p53 and Ki67 proteins were investigated in 19 ocular squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) in dairy cows. Microscopically, insix cases the tumors were carcinoma in situ (noninvasive carcinoma, G0), and in the remaining 13 cases the tumors were invasive carcinoma. ...
